This year I attended the Wananga o Aotearoa in Levin to learn more about weaving harakeke and to complete by National Diploma in Māori Art/Raranga (flax weaving). It was a year of ups and downs of hard learning, of fun and of even more appreciation of harakeke as art medium and what I can achieve with patience, perseverance and practice. I love to weave ‘out of the box’ to push my boundaries and I am looking forward to challenge myself next year focusing more on sculptural forms. These are some of my highlights of achievement this year. Thank you Nina Paaka, my patient and highly skilled kaiako (teacher).
